We are working on basic obedience and teaching sit at the gate or door while the other dogs go thru or out …KAT has to wait. Then wait untill I say “come”.
She is actually doing quite well at this, I will look and she will be sitting quietly waiting 70 % of the time without being told!
We are also working on “Come” no matter what the distractions. This is a bit harder but I would say she is 60% …
This evening KAT went with me to water the sheep and Les has some paths mowed in the field. We trailed the sheep down the paths at a distance where the sheep could feel the pressure but not run from us. KAT was very interested but minded perfectly.
We are practicing marking the desired behaviors with “Yes!” but in a low quiet voice.
The undesired behaviors are marked with “No” I start with a low voice and then get louder if I need to.
This is all in preparation for the rest of KAT’s life for what ever we might be doing…
When we ended our water work in the field …KAT and I walked to the gate quietly and she sat and waited for me to open the gate and tell her come , then on the other side I had to get her attention back on me. Then she promptly sat at the gate and waited for me to release her!
I am very pleased.
