When I take the pup out of the morning I open the door (if in basement or on carport) and teach the puppy manners…All four feet remain on the floor. Plus a well mannered English Shepherd walks to the door to be let out…
When I open the crate door my pup walks out stretches gets a good scratch behind the ear and praise. Then she is encouraged to walk out calmly with me, but waits and sits at the door till I say “okay Go!”
No bolting allowed!
I am calm and my pup is calm…If not I insist on this, there is no compromise. I set the mood…I am in control. Not the pup.
I do not fuss or preach but calmly ask for and wait till I get what I asked for. If I have to show my pup several times I am quietly and calmly patient.
